My mom's gonna be happy.
Tell you that much.
Let's take you through a few different looks
and end up with a classic refined gentleman at the end.
Today's the day.
We're gonna start by cutting down your beard,
so you don't look so woodsy.
I've never even been to the woods so...
I'm ready, are you ready?
[Thom] I'm ready.
Let's do it.
Used to have a really, really big beard.
That was just kinda foolish.
I now understood why I didn't work for two years
'cos I just look like I walked out of a cave.
And I think the whole point of today is now to figure out,
you know, is it the beard that's stopping the clients
from working with me or is it me?
I think a lot of guys have a beard too is because it
kinda gives you a jaw that you don't have.
Fun fact about me actually and I've got
no shame telling people,
I think I sucked my thumb until I was like 16.
Like those 16 years of my thumb being in my mouth,
I think like it kinda set my jaw back.
As you can see, now we're starting to see
the shape of his jaw.
When a guy has a beard, you never know
what's gonna happen after you take it off.
I still think he has a really strong face.
Okay now we're gonna work on this mustache a little bit.
We're gonna see what kinda lips we have.
Oh I got the lips.
I usually just like to follow the lip line.
Instead of using a scissor when I'm cutting around the lip,
I use a trimmer.
It's a lot easier and it's easy for him to do at home also.
Okay we're gonna stop with the beard
and start working on the hair now.
We're gonna take a few inches off of it
and sort of modernize his long hair.
Yeah I'm good.
[Thom] So I'm gonna start by cutting off
a good six inches of it.
Shoulder length is what we're looking for right now.
I don't even wanna look.
It's so crazy though when you look at marketing
like I never, because of my long hair and beard,
like they'll never be like oh now you're
the dad picking out the Christmas tree and the Audi like.
It's like you're only the hipster.
When I cut somebody's hair I want to know when
they go home and they shower and towel dry their hair,
that the shape is there for them.
Or no matter what they do to it, it'll always look good.
No one's even gonna recognize me.
Oh I have to actually.
I totally forgot about that.
Like my passport and everything else,
I just need to go to the airport like an hour early
and just be like guys I swear it's me.
Wow that's crazy.
I really like this actually.
It's kinda weird but what's cool about this look right here
is that Thom worked with stages so like I know
that my beard can grow out to this and it'll look good
and I can leave a mustache and whatever.
[beep] this is.
Excuse my language but that's crazy.
Lets keep it going.
I was thinking of tightening the sides
and getting rid of this back.
So you're really working with just this top.
Can I take a selfie o' this?
Man, where'd my jaw go?
Hold on this is kinda funny.
I love it off the camera but I hate it in my phone.
How is this possible?
We have longer sideburns.
I feel creepy.
[Male] Because you look creepy.
I kinda love it.
I definitely could play a truck driver.
[Thom] I think there's too much hair here for you.
Lets open that up a little bit.
[Male] How does it feel?
It's like arts and crafts on my face.
I kinda love it.
You've taken yourself to about three different people now.
And now we're gonna get rid of the handlebar though.
I definitely look like a dad.
Maybe I should just get into acting huh?
I'm coming for you Bradley Cooper.
[Thom] So now I'm going to take this down a little bit
so we change the whole look of this mustache.
If I worked at a coffee shop.
It's crazy how like all of these I'm just like
in scenarios like where I'm going.
Alright, lets get the hair off now.
Well your hair looks less
with shorter hair
Because you're not drawing attention
to that part of your hair.
When I first started modeling I looked like this.
And then I did America's Next Top Model
and we go under contract for six months.
And you can't do any model work so, what I did was,
I started growing my beard and I was like
oh I'll brand myself as like the bearded model.
And it worked for a little bit.
Until it didn't.
This is awesome.
I fought society for like six years.
And look at me, I'm back.
I think we've gotten two really great looks out of him.
I like his hair when it's a little bit longer than this too.
It's two good looks for him that he can play with.
I also feel that if he wants, he can grow his beard back
but not as long as it was.
I think he should just have a light scruff.
It'll give him a little more definition to his face.
[Phil] Thank you.
So much. You're welcome.
You look 10 years younger.
I feel ten years younger and I'm gonna
act like I'm 10 years younger too.
[Phil] My name is Phil Sullivan
and I just got the GQ transformation.
