Today we're gonna make the Michelada,
00:05
a spicy beer cocktail
00:07
that is also one of Mexico's favorite hangover cures.
00:10
It's a bit like a combination of a Blood Mary and a beer,
00:12
and it sounds weird, but trust me, you will thank me later.
00:15
For this cocktail, you're gonna need some
00:17
hot sauce, soy sauce, salt and pepper, worcestershire,
00:20
some fresh lime, and an ice cold beer.
00:23
First, we're gonna rim the glass with some salt.
00:27
Rub some lime around the edge.
00:30
Dab it into the salt.
00:33
I like to get a nice thick rim going.
00:36
And now we're gonna build everything in the glass
00:38
right over ice.
00:39
This cocktail, unlike most,
00:40
I don't actually measure everything really meticulously.
00:42
The beer is an equalizer
00:43
and kind of balances everything out at the end.
00:45
So first we're gonna add about five dashes of hot sauce,
00:47
more if you want it hotter, less if you don't.
00:49
Two dashes of soy sauce, not too much salt.
00:52
About four dashes of worcestershire.
00:54
And now the juice of a whole lime, right into the glass.
00:58
Now some recipes you'll see about there
01:00
use tomato juice or a clamato,
01:03
a combination of clam broth and tomato juice,
01:05
which makes it more like a Bloody Mary
01:06
or sometimes that's called a Bloody Beer.
01:08
I like this recipe without it
01:09
because it really helps retain the essence
01:11
of an ice cold beer.
01:13
Finally, we'll just crack some black pepper
01:15
right over the ice.
01:17
Now, let's grab our beer.
01:19
Any lighter Mexican style beer
01:20
or really any light beer works for this.
01:23
The most important thing though
01:24
is that it's ice, ice, ice cold.
01:27
Pour it right over the top.
01:30
Finally, we can just garnish with that same lime wedge
01:32
we used to rim before.
01:34
That is the Michelada.
01:36
This is a great drink to share with groups,
01:37
you can make a large batch of all this stuff ahead of time,
01:40
pour a little bit into each glass
01:41
and just have your guests top it off with beer.
01:44
If you don't wanna rim every glass with salt,
01:45
you can just sprinkle a little bit over the top.
01:47
But it's a great drink to share with friends.
01:49
So, the next time you find yourself
01:51
recovering from a long night out,
01:52
and are in some desperate need of hair of the dog,
01:54
remember the Michelada.
01:56
You'll be glad you did.
