The three essential things are obviously
00:02
to put as much effort as your can at the gym,
00:04
secondly, obviously having a healthy lifestyle,
00:07
and finally, but definitely not the least important,
00:09
is wearing the right outfit at the gym.
00:12
Because fitness is such a huge part of our culture,
00:14
it also makes you feel good to look good
00:16
and that's what fashion is all about.
00:18
[bright pop music] What's up GQ,
00:19
I am Pietro Boselli
00:20
and I'm gonna show you my gym essentials.
00:28
So let's begin with what I wear
00:31
when I'm on my way to the gym.
00:32
My way to the gym is part of the workout, warming up.
00:35
The simplest way is to wear a warm garment.
00:37
There's so many materials,
00:39
there are thermal regulating and so on,
00:41
I just need something that is insulating.
00:43
So this one is Petra,
00:45
which is my own brand,
00:46
in fact all my clothes that I have for the gym
00:49
and out of the gym I designed myself.
00:51
And all the fabric's made in Italy
00:53
so its like as Italian as I am. [laughing]
00:57
I wear this out a lot as well,
00:59
even if I'm not going to the gym.
01:00
I really feel cool in it.
01:04
[Pietro] So the next is another staple of sportswear
01:08
which is the legging.
01:09
This one thermal regulates,
01:10
it's cool when its warm
01:12
and it's warm when outside is cool.
01:13
I designed it also to give you compression
01:16
in the right points and that really helps
01:17
your circulation and then your recovery
01:20
after you run, as well.
01:22
So, for the guy who has never used leggings before,
01:25
you have to try it, you have to try
01:27
because it's gonna make a difference.
01:28
You're actually gonna love it.
01:30
So with this, if it's a little cool outside,
01:33
I like to wear a nice warm jacket with it.
01:36
There you go.
01:37
[Pietro] It's really really stretchy.
01:39
When you put it on, you don't feel any resistance anywhere.
01:42
Inside it's really like soft and warm material
01:45
and on the outside it's like really durable.
01:48
Yeah, so that like my default outfit
01:50
for going and running up a mountain.
01:53
So you need the leggings
01:54
whether its cold or warm outside,
01:56
this nice warm jacket,
01:57
and obviously underneath a very simple quick dry T-shirt.
02:01
So here it is.
02:02
[Pietro] When you feel it,
02:03
it's actually softer than cotton
02:05
but has the technical ability of a synthetic fabric.
02:09
The problem with cotton is that when it gets wet
02:12
it takes a long time to dry out.
02:14
If you are doing, for example,
02:16
interval training you're getting cold unnecessarily.
02:19
With a T-shirt that dries really quickly,
02:21
that is not the case because you're not
02:23
holding onto your sweat.
02:24
I wash this in the washing machine,
02:26
I take it out and it's practically already dry.
02:30
Now we move onto the staple of the inside the gym,
02:33
which is the shorts.
02:35
[Pietro] The shorts are essential,
02:36
they have to be a really really comfortable.
02:38
This particular pair of shorts
02:41
has a bit of oversized more comfortable fit.
02:44
In Europe people would like maybe like a shorter,
02:48
like a bit tighter.
02:49
In the US obviously the more basketball
02:51
kind of vibe is what people go for.
02:53
I love, obviously black,
02:53
I think that's always a classic,
02:55
but I think now all these really vibrant
02:57
and almost neon colors are coming back.
03:00
Speaking of black,
03:02
actually I also have tops that are white.
03:06
[Pietro] This is what I would wear
03:07
on a day when I'm doing shoulders or chest
03:11
and I really like to have feedback,
03:14
I look in the mirror I see that I'm getting a good pump
03:16
and I'm getting really happy about it.
03:19
Tanks tops are amazing,
03:20
its probably what I use the most
03:22
and I like to show of my muscles of course,
03:25
'cause you need to be proud of your work.
03:28
But make sure you cover your nipples, please. [laughing]
03:31
If your looking for something more technical,
03:33
then I have another tank top.
03:35
You can't be like naked at the gym. [laughing]
03:38
So the next best thing is to have something like this,
03:42
essentially a second skin.
03:44
The great advantage of this is that it's literally
03:46
you have nothing in your way,
03:48
you feel completely free to move around
03:50
and it's really like more of a high performance garment.
03:53
We also have the T-shirt.
03:56
Many people like to wear the T-shirt also at the gym.
03:58
My personal preference is with the tank tops
04:01
but there are many circumstances
04:03
in which you wanna use a T-shirt,
04:05
especially if you're wearing it under something else
04:08
like a warmer layer.
04:09
On the lats there are all those inserts.
04:11
When you move around,
04:12
a lot of times it gets stuck into places
04:15
and the three-denominational shape
04:16
really helps it not get stuck into some weird positions.
04:22
Shoes!
04:23
First of all I have my gym shoes.
04:25
So this is what I would wear on the gym floor.
04:28
The good thing about these shoes
04:29
is that they are quite wide and flat.
04:33
The sole is like rigid at the back,
04:35
so this is a very stable shoe,
04:37
a very sturdy shoe.
04:38
For example if you wanted to do exercises like calf raises,
04:41
you want something that is not too soft here at the front.
04:43
The second one is the running shoe.
04:48
[Pietro] Running is probably one of the most
04:50
technical exercises and people really underestimate that.
04:53
When you're a kid you just run about
04:55
and you feel that's running,
04:56
but actually it's very technical.
04:58
The way you have your stance,
04:59
the way your feet land,
05:00
so you really do need to understand how you run.
05:03
I like to land more on the front of the foot,
05:06
so I need a bit of more thickness at the front.
05:09
So I have always these with me,
05:11
sometimes also just to walk around
05:12
because they're comfortable.
05:15
[Pietro] So if you're gonna both lift weights
05:17
and run in your same workout
05:19
or if you're traveling and planning to do both like I do,
05:22
then you have to have both type of shoes.
05:26
Running and weight lifting are too different
05:28
to have something that works for both.
05:31
[Pietro] The flip-flops is,
05:32
I think is essential.
05:33
I you like to swim and so on,
05:35
to just like your feet are always clean.
05:38
It's not nice to walk around bare-feet in a gym
05:40
or at the pool.
05:42
So they're the cheapest, lightest,
05:44
and the simplest shoe in the world,
05:46
so get yourself a pair of flip-flops
05:48
and don't forget it at home.
05:51
So finally, we have my signature garment,
05:54
one would say [laughing].
05:56
I wear these a lot.
05:57
I used to be a competitive swimmer.
05:59
I went into triathlon after
06:00
and I just never switched to shorts.
06:02
I always use a speedo.
06:04
I use it even at the beach,
06:07
probably in the states it's not a very popular garment,
06:09
but there are some people who are really proud of them,
06:12
like myself.
06:14
I have also different kind of colors,
06:16
like fluorescent yellow 'cause if you're wearing a speedo
06:19
might as well just go all the way out.
06:22
[Pietro] There are many different types
06:24
of workouts that you can do.
06:26
As a consequence, there are a huge variety of materials,
06:30
of fits.
06:31
I've shown you just a few of those.
06:33
You really need to find your niche
06:35
and what need for your specific workout.
06:37
Like your choice is actually very important,
06:39
and at the same time, the style.
06:41
If you're spending more and more time in your gym wear,
06:45
that's also a moment in which
06:46
you have to express your style.
06:47
So remember,
06:48
upgrade your gym wear to upgrade your workout.
